Neve ParitzkiIsrael's first cycling tunnel is inaugurated in Jerusalem

The Kerem Tunnel allows for a an experience that is unique in terms of hiking and riding. 
The Kerem Tunnel, the first cycle tunnel in Israel was opened as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route that surrounds Jerusalem, Israel's capital city. 
It links Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. It is located in southern Israel within Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

Elkin's Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25 million for the project. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority. 
"The Kerem Tunnel project is the central instrument for achieving the goal to transform the idea of transportation in Jerusalem," Elkin said. Elkin explained that the proposed tunnel will connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path and will connect with existing bike trails. The tunnel will also be paved throughout the various neighborhoods. The tunnel will be a great way to encourage cycling and promote green transport in Jerusalem. 
In the 90s In the 90s, in the 1990s, Kerem Tunnel was excavated to move the main sewer line from Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is now utilized for infrastructure purposes. It also houses the fifth water line which is operated to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water company.

The current works include road construction, the installation of blowers and advanced security and electrical systems in order to ensure that the tunnel is secure for the public to pass through all year round. Kerem Tunnel Kerem Tunnel provides access to exclusive recreation spots, including Ein Kerem neighbourhood, the biblical aquarium and zoo , as also the historical natural springs Ein Haniyeh, Ein Laban, and Ein Haniyeh.
