ARROW ACADEMY With these six films, Woody Allen made one of the most remarkable transitions ever seen in American cinema, from the slapstick buffoonery of the early, funny films to the Oscar-winning breakthrough of Annie Hall and the wholly serious Interiors. Along the way there‘s the Latin American revolutionary satire Bananas, genre-bending sex-education spoof Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex and hilarious time-travelling trips to a future America (Sleeper) and Napoleon-era Russia (Love and Death). All these early films star Allen himself, usually as a hapless victim of unfortunate events, aided by the likes of Diane Keaton (several times), John Carradine, Jessica Harper, Louise Lasser, Lynn Redgrave, Burt Reynolds, Gene Wilder and Daisy the sheep. But the the mature Woody Allen was first revealed in Annie Hall, a film firmly of its time and place (mid-1970s Manhattan) but also universal in its wry and witty examination of the foibles of human relationships. The claustrophobically Bergmanesque family drama Interiors once seemed like a startling change of direction, but now anticipates much of what came later. Collection includes: Bananas (1971) Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex *But Were Afraid to Ask (1972) Sleeper (1973) Love and Death (1975) Annie Hall (1977) Interiors (1978) Arrow Academy’s second Woody Allen collection covers 1979-85, during which he made many of his best-loved films. These begin with Manhattan, a sublime Gershwin-scored Panavision love-letter to his home city, and end with The Purple Rose of Cairo, a wistfully affectionate romance about the cinema’s past that also doubles as a hilariously fantastical farce. In between there’s the Felliniesque, fascinatingly self-analytical Stardust Memories; the bucolic romp A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy (the first of thirteen films starring Mia Farrow); the technically and conceptually astonishing Zelig, in which a “human chameleon” bears witness to many of the 1920s and 30s cultural and political upheavals; and the perfectly-formed Broadway Danny Rose, a comedy about a theatrical agent who gets mixed up with the Mob. By now, Allen was working with a tightly-knit regular team: cinematographer Gordon Willis, designer Mel Bourne, editor Susan E. Morse and producer Robert Greenhut worked on nearly all of these, achieving an enviable consistency of style at a time when American cinema was moving away from the notion of the auteur director. Collection includes: Manhattan (1979) Stardust Memories A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy (1982) Zelig (1983) Broadway Danny Rose (1984) The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) Arrow Academy‘s third Woody Allen collection spans 1986-91 and the bulk of his work with Mia Farrow, who is featured in all seven of these films. They start with the much-loved family saga Hannah and Her Sisters, a warm and witty return to Allen s beloved Manhattan, and the nostalgic Radio Days, a collection of stories from the time of Allen s own 1930s/40s childhood. More sombre fare comes with the Chekhov-influenced ensemble piece September and Another Woman, with a tour de force role for Gena Rowlands as a middle-aged philosophy professor whose accidental eavesdropping makes her reassess her life. And with Crimes and Misdemeanors, Allen made one of his greatest films, a multi-layered and almost Dostoyevskian reflection on guilt that also finds room for some of his funniest one-liners. The box concludes with two of his more fantastical films, the romantic comedy Alice, in which relationships are guided with the aid of mysterious invisibility herbs , and the black-and-white, star-studded Shadows and Fog, an homage to Kafka and German Expressionism that was based on Allen s own one-act play Death. Collection includes: Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) Radio Days (1987) September (1987) Another Woman (1988) Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) Alice (1990) Shadows and Fog (1991) QUICK SUMMARY: Disc Title: MANHATTAN_BD Disc Size: 31,302,350,848 bytes Protection: AACS(v26) BD-Java: Yes Playlist: 00000.MPLS Size: 29,983,973,376 bytes Length: 1:36:19.440 Total Bitrate: 41.50 Mbps Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video / 35951 kbps / 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1 Audio: English / DTS-HD Master Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 1594 kbps / 24-bit (DTS Core: 2.0 / 48 kHz / 1509 kbps / 24-bit) Audio: Spanish / Dolby Digital Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 224 kbps Audio: French / DTS Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 256 kbps / 16-bit Audio: Italian / DTS Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 256 kbps / 24-bit Audio: German / DTS Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 256 kbps / 24-bit Audio: Spanish / DTS Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 256 kbps / 24-bit Subtitle: English / 61.478 kbps Subtitle: Spanish / 62.808 kbps Subtitle: French / 54.92 kbps Subtitle: Portuguese / 56.968 kbps Subtitle: Italian / 54.525 kbps Subtitle: German / 56.6 kbps Subtitle: Spanish / 57.617 kbps Subtitle: Dutch / 50.693 kbps Subtitle: Polish / 58.491 kbps Subtitle: Portuguese / 54.632 kbps Subtitle: Spanish / 0.92 kbps Subtitle: French / 0.754 kbps Subtitle: Italian / 79.195 kbps Subtitle: German / 0.898 kbps Subtitle: Spanish / 0.996 kbps Disc Title: STARDUST MEMORIES Disc Size: 28,298,180,608 bytes Protection: AACS(v62) BD-Java: No Playlist: 00003.MPLS Size: 772,399,104 bytes Length: 0:02:44.038 Total Bitrate: 37.67 Mbps Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video / 33683 kbps / 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1 Audio: English / LPCM Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 2304 kbps / 24-bit Disc Title: A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS SEX COMEDY Disc Size: 28,106,160,128 bytes Protection: AACS(v62) BD-Java: No Playlist: 00001.MPLS Size: 27,655,182,336 bytes Length: 1:27:55.478 Total Bitrate: 41.94 Mbps Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video / 36820 kbps / 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1 Audio: English / LPCM Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 2304 kbps / 24-bit Subtitle: English / 51.448 kbps Disc Title: ZELIG Disc Size: 28,369,811,456 bytes Protection: AACS(v62) BD-Java: No Playlist: 00001.MPLS Size: 28,073,232,384 bytes Length: 1:19:08.994 Total Bitrate: 47.29 Mbps Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video / 35901 kbps / 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1 Audio: English / LPCM Audio / 1.0 / 48 kHz / 1152 kbps / 24-bit Subtitle: English / 53.409 kbps Disc Title: BROADWAY DANNY ROSE Disc Size: 26,752,579,584 bytes Protection: AACS(v62) BD-Java: No Playlist: 00001.MPLS Size: 26,356,113,408 bytes Length: 1:24:41.951 Total Bitrate: 41.49 Mbps Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video / 36360 kbps / 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1 Audio: English / LPCM Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 2304 kbps / 24-bit Subtitle: English / 58.746 kbps Disc Title: THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO Disc Size: 25,516,636,160 bytes Protection: AACS(v62) BD-Java: No Playlist: 00001.MPLS Size: 24,977,952,768 bytes Length: 1:22:08.506 Total Bitrate: 40.54 Mbps Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video / 35454 kbps / 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1 Audio: English / LPCM Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 2304 kbps / 24-bit Subtitle: English / 53.082 kbps
