England will be firm favorites when they travel to take on Malta at the National Stadium in Ta' Qali on June 15th. The Three Lions come into this Euro 2020 qualifying match in good form, having won their opening two group games against Czech Republic and Montenegro by a combined score of 5-0. Manager Gareth Southgate has rotated his squad in these early qualifying matches as he looks to assess his options, but is expected to field a strong starting lineup for this match in Malta.
England will control possession from the opening whistle and look to break down Malta's defensive block with quick passing in the final third. Expect to see Raheem Sterling and Jadon Sancho provided the width as they try to stretch Malta's backline and create space in behind for Harry Kane to operate. Kane has been in red-hot form for club and country recently, having scored freely for Tottenham before notching in both England's prior qualifying wins. Malta will sit deep and aim to frustrate the visitors, potentially inviting pressure as they look to steal possession and hit on the counter.
Unfortunately for Malta, they do not pose much of a serious attacking threat themselves. 😕路‍♂️ They have scored just once in their opening two qualifying matches so far, a 1-1 home draw against Faroe Islands followed by a heavy 4-0 defeat in Sweden last time out. Maltese striker Steve Borg will need to be at his very best and have support from midfielders around him if they want to snatch anything from this outing. 💪 At the back, they will look to skipper Andrei Agius and central defensive partner Steve Pisani to stand strong under England's relentless waves of pressure and attempts to break them down.
Overall, England should have far too much quality in the final third for a limited Malta side to handle. 👍 While Southgate will want a professional performance, the focus will be on developing chemistry between his exciting young attackers and continuing their positive start to Euro qualifying. 欄 Malta will be satisfied to prevent a landslide scoreline and will take pride if they can keep the likes of Kane off the scoresheet entirely. In truth though, an England victory is the overwhelming expectation on June 15th. 🏴 - https://mbscore.tv/match/england-vs-malta-18712366
