Neve Paritzki (נווה פריצקי)The first tunnel for cycling in Israel is inaugurated in Jerusalem

The Kerem Tunnel allows for a unique hiking and riding experience. 
The Kerem Tunnel is the first bicycle tunnel in Israel and was officially opened in the year 2000 as part the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycling route around Jerusalem, the capital city. 
The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entrance is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem. 
The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was officially inaugurated by Jerusalem's Heritage Minister ZeevElkin. It was also attended by Mayor Moshelion, Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company chairman, and hundreds of cyclists. 
Jerusalem was a sought-after tourist destination because of its rich and fascinating historical. Elkin added that in addition to its historic treasures and modern amenities, tourism has also been included in the Jerusalem city. "The launch (of the tunnel) is a further step in the growth of Jerusalem and its transformation into a desirable tourist destination for all kinds of visitors in Israel as well as around the world." 
Elkin who's ministry spearheaded the project along with Jerusalem Municipality stated that his ministry has invested hundreds of millions of shekels annually in the development of Jerusalem's tourism and in the development of new activities and ventures which will link the amazing historical past and future of Jerusalem. I would like to invite cyclists to ride a secure and modernized route that will take the cyclist through Old Jerusalem. 
Elkin's Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25 million to the project. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority. 
Elkin stated, "The Kerem Tunnel project will be a central instrument in achieving our goal to change the notion of transportation in Jerusalem." "The new tunnel that connects to the Jerusalem Ring Path will join the existing bike paths as well as those that will paved in the neighborhoods. It's designed to promote biking among its residents and promote the green revolution in transport in Jerusalem." 
The Kerem Tunnel was first excavated in the 1990s to move the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation toward the purification plant located in Sorek The Sorek Tunnel is located to the west of the city. It is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel that also includes the fifth water line, which connects to Jerusalem of the Mekorot water company.
